Hally (Freddie Highmore) is a white teenager living with his father in South Africa during the apartheid era. Hally struggles to find a balance between laughing at his father's racist jokes and the friendship between him and two of their servants, Sam (Ving Rhames) and Willy (Patrick Mofokeng), with whom he spends a lot of time.
