Man Yan plot
Portrait of contemporary Chinese society through the ubiquitous illegally sold western feature films. The sellers of these illegal DVDs are everywhere: in shopping malls, on overpasses, around the bars and at the university. The film follows various characters during a cold winter in Beijing, in relation to their favorite films. The illegal DVDs, it turns out, open a way for the characters to a new, unknown world, which even turns out to be capable of changing their lives.
