"For His Last Love, Fate Led Him To Betray His First Love."
Towards the end of the Goreyo era, the king of the Goreyo dynasty tries to shake off Chinese rule by the Yuan dynasty (Mongols) and establish a truly independent state. From an early age, young people are trained for his palace guard of 36 young soldiers. One of them, Hong-rim, becomes not only the military commander of this elite corps but also the king's lover. When the queen, a princess of the Yuan dynasty, does not conceive, the king decides that his lover must share the bed with her in order to father an heir to the throne. His initial reluctance soon turns, with all the consequences that entails for the three directly involved.

Intriguing drama film from Korea. Indeed a lot of explicit (gay and especially straight) erotic scenes for an Asian film! Cinematography is special with all the pomp and circumstance of the Korean court. I also found the instruments used (Guqin) very interesting. Chief Hong-Lim's task assigned by the King grows into a passionate all-consuming love... Impossible dilemmas arise: loyalty to your function or loyalty to love? Jealousy ensues and it can only end dramatically. In my opinion, the number of bloody fight scenes is too high, because it distracts from the main theme of the film. The heartbreaking climax takes place at the very end. It may seem that there are only losers and the prize is sky-high, but continuing his own genes proves that there is only one true winner........

Tragic love triangle at the Korean court towards the end of the Goreyo era. Very beautiful in terms of costumes and sets, with a remarkable number of explicit nude and even sex scenes, something that we don't see very often in Korean cinema. In addition, a lot of action and bloodshed to get things back in balance. It takes a while for the story to get going and for you to care about the characters, but once it gets going, this is a compelling visual spectacle.

Hong-rim is the head of the elite corps of the king of Goreyo dynasty. In addition to being a confidant, he is even the king's lover. A pleasant film with beautiful sets and costumes. The battle scenes were also well portrayed. All reminded me of those Chinese movies - no need to look up titles, but everyone knows what I mean.
In addition to fighting, a remarkable amount of attention is paid to the interpersonal relationships within this love triangle, which makes the whole compelling and intense. Tragedy is central and has its climax at the end when action and drama literally come together. Very nice!
