Poland 1943. Since the war broke out in 1939, Poland has been occupied by Nazi Germany, which is why in many places violence and oppression reign on the streets and among the local Polish population. When the young German military policeman Guido and the Polish railway apprentice Romek meet during a race - on the train and in the street - a friendship slowly develops between the two 17-year-olds.
