A bouncer gets in a lot of trouble with the local rich bastard who wants to show by force that the village belongs to him. A lot of superficiality to annoy you but a nice electrically aggressive atmosphere with escalating violence. The musical accompaniment by placing the Jeff Healey Band in the background is also well thought out. I am easy to find for these kinds of films but it lacks the humor à la Schwarzie to really stand out. And indeed, Sam Elliot rules...

Pain doesn't Hurt.

my colleague, Peter's favourite. Entertaining light-hearted cliché fighting film with beautiful music.

Patrick Swayze makes this film – I've never seen much in him, but here he gives his role a certain charisma that allows me to take him seriously, even though I don't know many bouncers who are also PhD students in philosophy. Sam Elliott is also doing well, and the large amount of male testosterone, female beauty (rather Julie Michaels than Kelly Lynch, by the way) and blow-dried hair round things off satisfactorily. In the words of Roger Ebert: "Road house exists right on the edge between the "good-bad movie" and the merely bad. I hesitate to recommend it, because so much depends on the ironic vision of the viewer. This is not a good movie. But viewed in the right frame of mind, it is not a boring one, either." Not much to add, except that I find this film extremely entertaining aside from all the irony. (And I've changed my mind about Swayze.)
