Le Joueur plot
Film adaptation of Dostoyevsky's book The Gambler. Set in 19th century Baden-Baden, the story chronicles the trials and tribulations of some chronic gamblers. One of the gamblers is Alevei, he is in love with Pauline, the daughter of the poor general Zagoriensky. Alevei tries to save Pauline from poverty by teaching her the tricks of the gambler trade. Unfortunately, Alevei is too late to save Pauline when she literally and figuratively destroys herself.
