Le Curé de Tours plot

The story is about two different priests in the French city of Tours in 1826. Abbé Francois Birotteau is the 60-year-old priest of Tours. He is friendly and humble. He is good to his parishioners. The other priest, Troubert, is a less attractive person. He is more worldly, ambitious and jealous of Birotteau's position. In his simplicity and good humor, Birotteau does not suspect that he has aroused enmity in Troubert, nor in his landlady, the grumpy old Sophie Gamard. She makes him sign a document unknowingly selling his apartment. He is evicted from his home and Troubert becomes the new resident. Birotteau starts proceedings against Gamard.
