La Monaca di Monza plot

Forced by her father to enter the convent, Virginia is named abbess when the nobleman Osio, owner of the estate adjacent to the convent, falls in love with her. At first she resists his advances, but eventually they become lovers. Despite Molteno's warnings and counsel, her behavior becomes increasingly amoral. When his tragic murder catches the Cardinal's attention, the whole affair comes to light. Virginia is imprisoned and Osio is sentenced to death.
