A bourgeois chamberlain stands as a candidate in the provincial elections and, through his secretary's intercession, is helped in his campaign by her fiancé. He becomes the lover of his practical older sister who manages the family capital. But he gets his ex-fiancée pregnant, to trick their employer into thinking they're still in a relationship.
