Karpuz Kabugundan Gemiler Yapmak plot
"The 60's, Tepecik, a small Anatolian village…"
The friends, Recep (Ismail Hakki Taslak) and Mehmet (Kadir Kaymaz), who live in a small village and whose big dream is to become a film director. Their reality is quite different: Recep earns some money selling watermelons and Mehmet is apprenticed to the local barber, who takes every opportunity to sour his life. But material need does not prevent them from dreaming. In their spare time, they collect old films that are being dumped by the local cinema and organize their own 'screenings'. They use a wooden box of light, instead of a projector, and the only spectator is the village idiot. Recep has another dream: he is in love with the slightly older Nihal, daughter of a lady to whom he brings melon slices, but this dream seems even less attainable than that of becoming a filmmaker. He asks his friend Mehmet to help him.
