Just Around the Corner plot

The nightlife, the theaters, the cafes, the neon signs, the glamor of showbiz... nothing appeals to Essie more. She is therefore overjoyed when she manages to get a job as an usher in a small, dilapidated theater. She then falls in love with the unreliable Joe. Essie's ailing mother is very eager to meet her daughter's fiancé, but he never appears. Then a stranger decides to take his place.
