Joe plot
"Keep America beautiful."
Businessman Bill confronts his drug-addicted daughter and her boyfriend, whom he kills. He runs away and stops at a bar along the way where he meets one Joe. Joe hates foreigners, hippies and people who are different. Bill tells him his secret, which gets him into trouble.

Superb film that is a perfect representation of the late 1960s. This print balances perfectly between drama and comedy and really has an unparalleled Peter Boyle in the lead role.
Also nice to see a young Susan Sarandon.
The ending is unexpected and shocking.

Film got off to an excellent start and with "grateful" themes such as drug use and pressure, there was definitely something to it, but the film gradually waters down to become something unimaginably bad at the end.

Good movie in which a man kills a junkie after his daughter has taken an overdose. An original story about a special relationship that develops between two fathers of different classes. Peter Boyle plays a fascinating title character and the film also has a few good scenes. Clearly a product of its time that probably managed to make just a little more impact at the time. A narrow 3.5 stars for this debut film by Susan Sarandon.
