Iskuplenie plot

A small and devastated Soviet town in 1946, as the first New Year approaches after World War II. In the past, the different nationalities lived in peace and harmony, but the war has now divided them into victims and executioners. A stubborn and self-centered daughter hands her own mother, a widow who is forced to steal food, to the authorities, who lock her up. A young Jewish lieutenant returns to his hometown, discovers that his entire family has been murdered during the occupation years, and is blinded by revenge.
