Franco Elica is a film director who becomes desperate when his daughter marries an extremely religious Catholic. Then he gets the assignment from the studio to film the piece 'I Promessi Sposi', which has already been adapted countless times. Elica then flees to Sicily, where he meets a whole series of colorful people. When a high-ranking nobleman asks Franco to film his beautiful daughter's wedding, things go horribly wrong. Franco falls in love with her himself...
