Il Postino plot
"Dreams do come true."
The shy fisherman's son Mario (Troisi) lives on the island where poet Pablo Neruda (Noiret) takes refuge. The islanders react enthusiastically to Neruda's arrival and welcome him as a true folk hero. When the local post office can no longer handle the piles of letters for Neruda, Mario is given the honorable task of delivering the letters. Every day, faithful Mario cycles to Neruda's remote home. The postman notices that the piles of letters come almost exclusively from women. He thinks Neruda is attractive to women because of his poetry, so one day Mario asks him how he can become a poet. Neruda is cool and distant at first, but Mario continues to ask. Gradually the two opposites grow towards each other.
