Henry (Gregory Peck) is the sheriff of a small town in Tennessee. The norms and values are very important to him and he blindly follows the law. And he is always quick to judge others. Then he meets Alma (Tuesday Weld), a young beautiful girl who turns his world upside down. He is unable to suppress his feelings for her. Soon it spreads like wildfire through the village.
