I Promessi Sposi plot
Based on Alessandro Manzoni's famous novel of the same name, set in 17th-century Lombardy. In a farming hamlet on Lake Como, the powerful landlord Don Rodrigo resists the impending marriage of a young couple of humble origins, Renzo and Lucia, because he himself is in love with Lucia. This is the beginning of severe trials for the two lovers, which only end during the tragic plague epidemic that ravaged Milan.
