Hiawatha, a member of the Ojibway tribe, is on a peace mission to the Dakota tribe. There Hiawatha also meets Minnehaha, the daughter of Chief Iagoo, and he falls in love with her. However, the romance is hampered by an impending war between the two tribes. The feud between the two tribes is stirred up by Pau PukKeewis, a short-tempered member of the Ojibway tribe. Meanwhile, Hiawatha, who wants to prevent a war, learns that he is actually the long-missing son of the chief of the Dakota tribe.
