Her Mad Bargain plot
Alice Lambert, after spending ten years in idleness and luxury, finds herself without money and must find her way in the world. She becomes a mantle model, but the store owner turns out to be a despicable person and she leaves when he tries to hug her. She then gets work as an artist's model, but flees the studio half-dressed when the artist violently tries to make love to her. She takes refuge in another studio of artist David Leighton, who prevents her suicide by lending her $50,000. In exchange, she must take out life insurance for $75,000 for one year.
