"BASED ON THE LIFE OF America's Great Composer STEPHEN COLLINS FOSTER"
Stephen Foster is a composer who has to make ends meet. When one day, from a black church, he hears melodies, he knows which direction he wants to go. His father-in-law doesn't want to hear about this, as does his own father, who forces him to work for his company. Although he achieves some success with the song "Oh! Susanna", his life is one big mess. His marriage is on the rocks and he falls into alcoholism.
