Hanare Goze Orin plot
Orin is an itinerant musician plagued by blindness and a celibacy imposed by her faith. After she is raped, the group she was traveling with repels her and she has to go on alone. Determined to regain her sexual identity, she travels through Japan, which, at the beginning of the 20th century, is embroiled in a war with Russia. Finally, she meets a progressive young man who has a deep aversion to Japanese militarism and the oppression of women. Tragically, this means to him that he cannot have sexual intimacy with a woman without being a hypocrite himself.
