This one has been on my must-see list for a while. When this was broadcasted on TV recently, I just put it on the hard drive, so I can fast-forward the commercials. Watched yesterday and I have to say that the film does not disappoint me, creditable acting performances of the three leading women and remarkably enough Lohan stands out. The story is well developed without being over dramatic and that prevents this from becoming a dime a dozen film. The music is good, strangely enough you don't pay attention to that, it was only when I gave the film a second viewing that I noticed how appropriate and yet unobtrusive the music is. The only downside of the film is the role of Elwes, that man can't act. Other than that, the film scores well with me.

Three generations of top talent actresses, namely Jane Fonda, Felicity Huffman and Lindsay Lohan (with the least talent) do not necessarily make a good film.

In this Drama/Comedy movie, three generations of women from the same family are at odds with the alcoholic mother Lilly (Felicity Huffman) taking her rebellious teenage daughter Rachel (Lindsay Lohan) to her strict mother Georgia (Jane Fonda) in the countryside, in the hope he can get her back on track. However, the family turns out to have some big secrets.

Alternately comic and tragic (the film pretends to be a comic adolescent drama), in which the tragic parts come out best. However, the number of unsavory plot twists (eg sexual abuse, which is no laughing matter) negates the sincere efforts of the actresses. Lindsay Lohan holds up very well alongside Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman and especially impresses with scenes in which she is very rebellious. That may not be a coincidence, because during the shooting of this film, she received a warning for her unruly behavior on set.

All in all, a mediocre Drama / Comedy film, which perishes due to a total lack of tact.

“You don't look evil.”
“Makeup helps.”

Better than expected. This is mainly due to the Fonda/Huffman/Lohan trinity, and these top actresses give color to the otherwise somewhat too solid Georgia Rule. Lohan in particular shows her class here as a riotous teenager with a dark secret. The film has a nice languid atmosphere, but the heavy themes (abuse and alcoholism) are also not shunned. The mix of humor and drama does not always work well, but with such actresses you come a long way. The ending is quintessentially American, but a story about the bond between mother/daughter/granddaughter deserves this kind of ending.
