BB #9

"The title does not look prophetic, with Brigitte Bardot lacking any depth as yet for star stamping," according to Variety. They must have backed that up in hindsight. And I don't think they are entirely right either; BB really does have her moments – it is more the film that is too weak, and on just about every front – is it about BB or Jean Marais? That is where the focus is missing; Isabelle Pia is disturbingly weak even in her role as a crybaby – just stating the obvious.

Meanwhile, BB has clearly found her star persona here, and makes clear use of it during the singing lesson by occasionally taking exaggeratedly deep breaths. You can tell from the title alone that her stage presence isn't on the level of, say, a Callas, but what is a shame is that the singing is so bad—and that despite it being clearly dubbed. They really could have found something better for that. And the same goes for the choice of music; I really can't figure out what the idea behind that was. Just put that cat out of its misery quickly; that remains the predominant emotion.
