It's summer. Rachel, a young woman of twenty, lives alone with her eighteen-month-old daughter. Her life bores her. One day she scribbles a note for her neighbor and leaves, leaving her child behind. She first stays with a man and then with a woman, with whom she has a love affair. Meanwhile, the body of the child is discovered. Claire, the police officer in charge of the investigation, is deeply affected by the mother's act for personal reasons.
