After her mother's death, Manuela (Romy Schneider) goes to a girls' boarding school where there is a strict regime and there is certainly no place for desire, whether physical or not. Only the German teacher understands the adjustment problems of the students. She is popular among all children, but Manuela goes so far as to openly declare her love. The system challenged by this condemns Manuela to be sick and decides that she must be healed.
