Fontane Effi Briest plot

17-year-old Effi is married off by her cold-hearted parents to an old uncle in 19th-century Germany. The marriage is next to nothing and Effi has an affair with a lieutenant. Years later, her husband discovers the affair and challenges the lieutenant to a duel. In addition, he will punish her painfully after the duel.
