When Emma's father says that he wants to go through life as a woman from now on, his youngest daughter is completely thrown off balance. Although this concerns a family whose father undergoes gender reassignment surgery, the film actually revolves around the universal theme of the effects of a divorce on the family. At the center is Emma [Kaya Toft Loholt], the younger of two daughters, who is especially afraid of losing her father. Her almost 14-year-old older sister Caro [Rigmor Ranthe] also seems to accept the new situation easily, which makes Emma feel that she is all in it.
The cleverly chosen title makes it clear that these are tensions that every 'completely normal family' has to deal with. It is striking that Emma does not remain in her emotion. She is overjoyed when she can cuddle the family dog and also enjoys a game of foosball. And despite all the struggles, she pays a beautiful musical tribute to her sister on his 14th birthday in one of the most moving scenes in the film. Although the theme of gender reversal is the most obvious, this is a movie about family relationships in general and those between two sisters in particular. Emma is helpless without Caroline's support, but together they can take on the whole world
The flashbacks are disturbing and the ending is not very meaningful, but the disarming performance of the two young actresses, as well as Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as Thomas/Anjete, make this more than worth it.
