El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba plot
The Colonel waits. The military has promised him a pension, but that was years ago. Every Friday he sits on the dock, in his best suit, waiting for the letter confirming his retirement to arrive. Everyone in town knows that he waits in vain. He actually knows that himself. But the Colonel clings to his dream, what else can he do? His thin, asthmatic wife Lola hides her hunger and occasionally seeks solace in the local cinema. The Colonel is ashamed of his poverty. From time to time he visits Julia, a good-hearted prostitute, who provides the elderly couple with food, which they reluctantly accept. Their hopes are now pinned on the possible successes of their late son's fighting rooster.
