Dunya & Desie plot

Dunya is Moroccan, raised in Ramadan, Imams and Mecca. Desie is as Dutch as cheese and tulips. The girlfriends are now 18; time for real life. On her birthday, Dunya is told by her parents that she will be married off to a Moroccan cousin. She has little interest in that. Desie becomes pregnant by her driving school teacher who abandons her. Desie doesn't know if she wants to keep the baby. She decides to look for her own biological father. When it turns out that he lives in Morocco, this provides an escape option for both friends and they go looking for him together.

Used to often watch the series that were also very educational and beautiful. At least that wasn't sweet soap opera. The movie is just as good as the series. It's also a bit of a sequel to all the series and it certainly succeeded. We are now a few years further of course and we are actually just continuing where the last season ended. Only now more secrets are revealed. The start is already good and we have to deal with those painful Moroccan mentalities again. So according to Dunya's family Desie is a slut and Dunya is no longer allowed to hang out with Der. If she does, then her brother (sir "I act so tough because I'm holy, but in the meantime I deal, use and fuck everything that is loose and stuck" Can't stand that kind of hypocrisy anyway and they don't care a mean way. Also the other grim things of Dunya's morals and values of their faith. At times they seem to be very hospitable and at other times they are as hateful as what. pack the bags this time to Morocco Dunya does that with the family for vacation and because she has to marry a cousin and Desie finds out quite by accident that the forgotten father lives in Morocco and so Dunya and Desie happen to meet each other in Morocco, and together they go in search of Desie's father, where the film turns into a beautiful and atmospheric road movie.Desie is also pregnant with twins.

I also thought the 2 girls really played fantastic, they have and always had talent. Theo Maassen is also very good and of course Desie's mother. The last quarter of the film is also moving and beautiful.

Certainly a successful film variant on the D&D series. Hopefully there will be a part 2. It will never be superfluous.

4.0*

Am I really the only one who saw the huge flaw in this movie and thought the whole time it would have a different ending? And continuously waited for THE moment that she would find out that it wasn't .... In the beginning with that pregnancy test they say very clearly "cross = pregnant and dash = not pregnant. While it is really the other way around : A line is always pregnant There are no tests where the cross means pregnant, so the moment they think Deesie is pregnant because a cross has appeared, it means in the real world that she is not pregnant. That's why I also thought with those bloody pants: now it becomes known, because it is just her period instead of miscarriage. Every moment I was waiting for the revelation where she would find out that she was not pregnant and it read it wrong But it didn't happen. A super big mistake of this whole movie. Immediately one star less.
In any case, I didn't think this film was very well acted, so from the 2.5 star there is now 1.5 left.

Cliche but true; the series was much more fun... but the characters Dunya and Desie make up for it
