Die Zeit der Kraniche plot

12-year-old Lea Borchardt (Stella Kunkat) lives with her father, the biologist and environmentalist Lutz (Bernhard Schir), in one of Germany's last nature reserves. Lutz tries to stop the construction of a new hotel in order to preserve the wildlife in the area. When the two find a baby in the woods, old wounds are opened: Lea's mother also left her shortly after she was born. When Commissioner Monhaupt (Manfred Zapakta) steps in, Lea learns a family secret.
