Das Ewige Lied plot
1820. A river flows through the village of Oberndorf, which serves as a border when the land borders are newly established. One half of Oberndorf now belongs to Austria, and the other half to Germany. A real disaster for inland skippers who previously had a monopoly on the transport of salt on the river. They lose a lot of money because of expensive import duties. When a wholesaler also decides to build a train track, the turnips are done. Priest Joseph Mohr and school teacher Franz Gruber look on with sorrow. They decide to calm the mood by writing a song. A song that can no longer be ignored at Christmas: Silent Night.
