The movie got a lot of crap over it but thought it was good. It is certainly not a film to be taken very seriously with this good school teacher who, with her empathy methods, is gradually getting the attention of a bunch of irregulars. I didn't always believe that this would work. Dangerous Minds is at times quite sentimental and yet not as superficial as it sometimes looks : some backgrounds of young people are revealed and the idea that a teacher should: 1) give young people self-confidence and 2) in a neutral way to of them should give regardless of their social background. In this regard, the film has the best intentions and for me made it slightly better than a lot of other high school films, but still not quite as refined as Lean On Me, Dead Poet's Society or Entre Les Murs. Also think it's one of Pfeiffer's better roles.

“There are no victims in this classroom.”

This film still retains its charm. Seen very often and especially the role of Pfeiffer remains good. She carries this film and is supported by a couple of young actors. A class of troubled teens begins to appreciate Louanne (Pfeiffer) more and more, and by studying poetry, they regain purpose in their lives and hope for a better future. It's not original and Dangerous Minds doesn't shy away from sentiment. But the interaction between Pfeiffer and the young actors works well and forms the basis for an entertaining film. The ending is a bit rushed, but it's feel good and it works well here.

Nice film about an ex-marine who starts working as a teacher for a class with difficult students. Not exactly the first and certainly not the best teacher/student movie. The course is therefore predictable. Still, it looks pretty easy. Of course the lead role of Michelle Pfeifer helps with this and also the fine 90s hip-hop oriented soundtrack. A small 3.0 stars.
