Cold Creek Manor plot

"The perfect house hides the perfect crime."

Cooper and Leah Tilson decide to move from the busy city to the countryside with their daughter Kristen and their son Jesse. They buy a big house for a bargain price and slowly but surely start to believe that this is the perfect place for them. But then Dale Massie, the previous owner of the house who spent three years in prison, suddenly shows up. From that moment on, the beautiful life in the countryside suddenly starts to become less attractive to the Tilson family.

Not special.

During the first half, Cold Creek Manor is sort of an earlier version of The Intruder. The most ironic thing about it is that Quaid plays the villain in The Intruder, while he's on the right side here. Basically I think both films are on the same level, except that this film takes a slightly different direction in the second half.

It's all very safe. The tension is predictable, as is the narrative itself. Figgis may think he has created something wonderfully original with this, but to me it's little more than a standard recipe spiced up with a few new ingredients. However, the core still remains the same.

Acting is fine but nothing special. Like the narrative and the tension, the characters are not exactly innovative figures, and that is not a requirement in the context of the story. I only hoped that there would be something to see that had something to offer. Cold Creek Manor did not, however, so it was not necessarily an annoying seat, but also not an exciting one. I have nothing more to report.

Mediocre film in which a family decides to move from the city to the countryside after an incident. A long build-up that takes up almost the first half of the film. And on top of that, the final plot/mystery isn't too much either. Not bad, but all rather standard and a bit boring (at least it doesn't get exciting anywhere).

Extremely predictable weak thriller that indeed tries to imitate Cape Fear and is also full of clichés.
That horse, of course it will be killed, you know that as soon as you see the horse. 'I got a pony!' ..cunt kid. The police who once again don't blow a whistle.
Sharon Stone is not convincing as a maternal mother. Somewhere in the garden she is picking flowers, in a designer flower dress. It's all too thick on top of it.
Dennis Quaid also does something... Dennis Quaidnot.
Stephen Dorff as bad guy, does not impress in any way. Walks in and out of that house uninvited, but apparently everyone thinks that is quite normal. Don't you kick a guy like that right off the field?
That happy nerve music when they find those snakes in the house, very badly filmed and acted that part.
Also kept hearing such an annoying kitchen timer sound in between, thought there was something wrong with my TV.
