Toho University Hospital has an excellent team of surgeons who specialize in cardiac surgery. The team is led by Doctor Kyoichi Kiryu who was trained in the United States. The team specializes in Batista surgery, which removes part of the stretched heart muscle. Hence the name "Team Batista". It is a daring surgical method that is still in an experimental phase. There is normally a 60% chance of success. Team Batista has successfully completed 26 operations in a row. When three patients suddenly die in succession on the operating table, people become alarmed.
