Bilyy Ptakh z Chornoyu Vidznakoyu plot
In the Carpathians, near the Romanian border, lives a poor peasant family. The family must survive in the area, which within a short time was claimed as part of Romania and Poland, before being united with the Soviet state of Ukraine just before World War II. The family has many children, and the five sons form the village band. The father is smuggling for extra income. When war breaks out between the Nazi-backed Ukrainian nationalists and the Soviets, the sons face each other, and the group loses one son after another.
