Hassan is the son of the chieftain of the Badjao's, a Filipino tribe that roams the sea. When Hassan falls in love with Bala-amai, problems arise. She is in fact a niece of the chief of the Moro's, another tribe. This tribe is Muslim and mainly roams the land. Although Hassan wants to give up his lifestyle to live with Bala-amai, the Moros disagree with the relationship.
