"We live at the abyss."
Mel and Sidney are a couple living on the fringe of society. Mel (James Woods) sees himself as a professional burglar. Sidney (Melanie Griffith) is his girlfriend who supplies him with drugs and champagne. When the two pick up Bobbie and Rosie, a young and in love couple, Mel convinces Bobbie to take a big hit together. Mel and Sid offer the youngsters a life of excitement and thrills: drugs, nice clothes and champagne. The foursome grows into a close-knit family and succeeds in their goal. It just doesn't work as expected...

In itself I think this is just an average film and this film has not told me more than all the other films that have previously addressed this subject. So then I would give it a 2.5.
But because James Woods' acting is so incredibly good. And Melanie Griffith also surprised me, so I give this film an extra point for that. So in the end a *3.5.

Another nice insight from Clark, who is not explicitly referring to young sex-frustrated boys, but about 1 derailed family with a father who endangers his entire family through his mafia activities. This also applies to Sid, who just gets it all on his plate and gets carried away with it. Yes, and it's all messy again at ADIP. It varies from drug coming on age film to mafia film. I thought Sid was beautifully played and James Woods was also very crazy. What really bothered me was the poor acting (especially from Sid's mother and friend), but otherwise it was a great watch.
