"In love, as in life, destiny is always waiting in the wings"

In 1947 Liverpool, a theater company prepares the production of a series of performances. Sixteen-year-old Stella, who lives with her aunt and uncle, joins the group. While the director completes the rest of the cast and rehearses some plays with them, all kinds of intrigue play out behind the scenes.
