"Amazing Grace" tells the story of the pioneer William Wilberforce, who fought against slavery. His theories and ideas put him in difficult positions against powerful men. Yet he also achieved many political successes. Through his efforts, the Atlantic slave trade was banned by Britain in the early 1800s.

Political costume drama about the abolition of the slave trade in England, with sometimes quite theatrical performances. It is difficult to get into the story, not only because the dialogues are almost always in the same tone, but also because it is and remains rather superficial. This film also looks too made with all those costumes, sometimes they don't fit the story or the situation in my opinion. I got the impression that I was watching a theater performance.
It's all about the main characters' political careers and their moral/religious choices to eradicate the slave trade, but it didn't convince me, the main character's struggle between the two didn't come across well either. I also found the radical change of course, even tears, of the politicians after 'smell' of a slave ship, not credible.
The film lacks momentum and is so straightforward that it feels predictable and long-winded. Two stars.

Ion Gruffaud (TV serial Horatio Hornblower and the officer searching for survivors of the Titanic) is the right person for a role as a human rights advocate.
Film doesn't break any pots, but muddles on biographically (?) and has no highlights, surprises and tension. Good imaging.
