“Rock stars have kidnapped my son!”

Almost Famous still hasn't lost any of its magic. The music, the costumes, the actors, it all radiates a wonderful 70s atmosphere and director Crowe deserves all the credit for a sentimental and nostalgic film experience. The actors and actresses visibly have fun playing their part and the chemistry between them is amazing.

The whole idea of a 15-year-old boy being allowed to follow a rock group and write about it for Rolling Stone Magazine naturally appealed to me as a teenager and the film still has an irresistible appeal. The 1970s beautifully brought to life, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Kate Hudson (youth crush…), Crudup, Lee, Fugit, Deschanel and the great McDormand and Hoffman, there's a lot to do to enjoy. Crowe has struck a perfect balance between humor, drama, nostalgia and sentiment and the film feels like a warm bath. Almost Famous is a film about a young boy who gradually matures and undergoes some hard lessons. A coming of age story that continues to fascinate after all these years.

Nice tip from dualcia of a movie that I wouldn't have come up with otherwise. It is a film with a beautiful seventies atmosphere that looks nice. I chose the director's cut of almost three hours and I certainly don't regret it, that version only collapsed once, but that didn't prevent me from watching it in one go. The film is very similar to The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) which is also about a wallflower and a nice nineties [ /i] atmosphere, although that film does not have the musical approach of this one. A coming of age that takes place in the middle of the [i]rock scene , with a broad and well-known cast that does an excellent job. Very pleasant binoculars. 4*

Mediocre.

Yet another glorification of the rock scene (or any other hip thing from a bygone era). This time through a young journalist who is allowed to tour with a mid-level rock band. Tough guys who live a wild life and say great quoteable things.

Unfortunately, the film doesn't have much more to offer, except for a recurring moral that speaks out against the commercialization of an anti-establishment movement and music movement. What can you do with that in 2018.

The only advantage is that Crowe still manages to make a reasonably smooth film, which is also not wrong for a film that lasts 150 minutes. Despite the long playing time, there are few moments that chafe or where boredom really sets in, unfortunately there are also rarely scenes that have any added value or only show the potential to linger for more than a day.

Probably more fun if you can appreciate the music or have experienced that scene.

2.0*
