As is often the case with moralizing films (Scrooged, Groundhog Day, Ghosts of girlfriends past) the seducer and his seduction are more fun and above all more infectious than the conversion and the reward, especially when the good main characters are played by such flat actors as James Craig and Anne Shirley. But in All that money can buy the contrast is very great, because boy, oh boy, does Walter Huston play his character of "Mr. Scratch" with humor, dedication and evident pleasure - his devil probably didn't stand a chance at the Oscars at the time against Gary Cooper's All American Sergeant Alvin York. For me, Huston is the main added value of this film, because the story is quite straightforward and the setting of the New Hampshire farm environment does not appeal to me personally. Beautiful last half minute in which Huston is allowed to steal the show.
