It's been a while since I've enjoyed a movie so much. That Bradley Cooper (or is it Jeff Bridges?); what an impressive role he plays here. The first time he really manages to convince/touch me as an actor - [i]and musician. Gaga ditto (although Cooper is the real star here for me). And then that Sam Elliott, he has you in his pocket with one sentence.

Sure, the story is predictable here and there with little new under the sun, but the film excels on almost all fronts (acting on 1).

Normally not my music at all, that Shallow, but I think it's a really great song - and the scene itself makes you sit on the edge of your seat and relax at the same time.

If the film had stopped immediately after zooming in on the holiday home, with the changing colors, a 4.5* would definitely have been there. The scenes on it add little or don't really appeal to me. I'll Never Love Again touches me less - although the scene itself does, with another strong acting by - yes - actress Gaga.

(+1: the old man in the cinema seat next to me, with the beautiful smile that barely disappeared from his characteristic face in the last part.)

Spacious 4*

Flat Oscar stuff.

Such a typical film that is mainly out for an image, and that also pays quite a lot for it. Everything and everything in this film is focused on sentiment, unfortunately most of it sounds very false. Every second feels like a compulsion to FEEL, but in the end I didn't give a damn about the movie and I was mostly glad it was over.

It may be the fourth film adaptation of the story, but that story is so well known that it hardly matters. Exasperated artists, alcohol, a love that tears, etc etc. You certainly don't have to look for that. Nor for the point of criticism towards the pop world, because the film is mainly guilty of its own indictment.

Cooper who rambles hoarsely throughout the film, Gaga who as a poor slob continues to support her husband, while her musical message is sold in glittery suits, a number of complete shitty songs that do not exceed the tame pop level themselves, a dog that pitifully in front of the garage door [ spoiler] is when Cooper finally writes himself out of the movie ... everything is so predictable, feels so unreal that it has become a sad sitting.

Hope it doesn't work out for this movie at all, they deserve it.

1.0*
