A Few Good Men plot

"In the heart of the nation's capital, in a courthouse of the U.S. government, one man will stop at nothing to keep his honor, and one will stop at nothing to find the truth."

Inexperienced military lawyer Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) specializes in closing deals. He is asked to defend two soldiers who are apparently guilty of murder. After some more detective work, Kaffee learns that the two boys were acting at the behest of Colonel Nathan Jessep (Jack Nicholson). Unfortunately, Kaffee has no proof of that, so he faces the near-impossible task of proving the innocence of the Marines.

Mediocre film carried by a handful of minutes of screentime from - once again masterful - Jack Nicholson. The story didn't really interest me. Felt like I had seen it all ten times. Demi Moore was very bad, Cruise was decent, but sometimes takes a bit too much on his fork. What follows are a few nice scenes and dialogues, interspersed with very mediocre scenes in the courtroom that culminate in a predictable ending.

Of the countless court films, this military variant remains one of the most masterly, with especially the unforgettable verbal titanic battle in the end between lawyer Cruise and narcissistic authoritarian Colonel Nicholson, in which the general is hacked on his ego during the interrogation in such a way that he is tempted into a confession.

This film excels in the character roles of Cruise, Nicholson but also the crazy Major Lieutenant Colonel Markinson played by JT Walsh (sadly died too early at 55 years old) were portrayed very well. The compelling story is also very well done.

Court films are certainly not my favorite genre, but I have already seen these several times. Top movie in this genre.

It's a shame, by the way, that an entire generation of character actors from the pre-CGI era of the film industry (1980-2000) are reaching the age of 70+. Including Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and countless others

Excellent court drama that naturally revolves around the clash between the well-acted show cock Kaffee and hard-nosed Colonel Jessup.

Quiet drama that first finds its story in Dan, Sam and Jo who are stuck together for the defense of the two soldiers. Something where they are not exactly on the same page, Dan and Jo dan, in terms of approach, cause and sentence. It is mainly the cause where a cesspool opens with accusations, suspicions and a determined unwholesome approach, and also a bin with lies.

In the sequel, Dan and his team build their business, and after an initial clash with Jessup's wrath, the story seems to focus mainly on the chemistry of Dan's team. A case, incidentally, that always seems to get stranded on a detail, after which it becomes the choice to continue with this crusade or to choose eggs for your money. A new clash with Jessup is obvious and...wow there is one. The logic of the unpacked clothes comes very late by the way. Something I already thought of when Jessup claimed that Santiago would leave as soon as possible. By the way, I thought that Kaffee realized this on the spot because of his sudden departure.

The film also stands out especially with its image of order, toughness and following orders, a fine Cruise as a fallen lawyer Kaffee, Nicholson of course excellent as a hot-headed officer, not to mention the beautiful Demi Moore, always a joy to see. Of course, the film revolves around, and only aims at one thing, the swords that are crossed by Cruise and Nicholson. A scene to which an excellent one is being built. A few good men can then be called an excellent court film.
