2/11 - Het Spel van de Wolf plot
November 2, 2004, just after 9 o'clock in the morning. All alarm bells are going off at the AIVD headquarters in Leidschendam: the message comes in that Theo van Gogh was murdered in Amsterdam, and a little later that the perpetrator's name is Mohammed Bouyeri. The latter announcement in particular causes the hectic pace at the office, because they know that name all too well at the service. And he's not alone. In fact, they know all the members of what the press has come to call the “Hofstad Group”. In fact, the service maintains close contacts with many members. What happened? How could they not have noticed that Bouyeri, after all a central figure in their investigation, was carrying around that plan? And that he could do it without the agency even noticing? Or is there more to it?
