Wim Crouwel Modernist plot
Wim Crouwel (1928-2019) was a graphic designer and exhibition designer who changed the face of the Netherlands with his agency Total Design. His modernism was expressed in posters and catalogs for the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, stamps, logos and experimental work such as the computer font New Alphabet. As a student at the Rietveld Academy, documentary maker Lex Reitsma became fascinated by the idiosyncratic Crouwel, not only because of his work but also because of his personality. This documentary lets the old master speak, interspersed with special archive material and stories from family, colleagues, admirers and critics.
