The Tiger Next Door plot
Experts estimate that there are more tigers in captivity in the United States than in the wild worldwide. 24 of them live in Dennis Hill's backyard. 'The Tiger Next Door' follows the story of a man who has been keeping, breeding and selling tigers for the past 15 years from his backyard in Flat Rock, Indiana. At the beginning of the documentary, Hill has 24 tigers, 3 bears, 6 leopards and a puma. He claims he knows exactly what they're thinking by the look in their eyes. He is mainly consumed with the prospect of breeding a streak-free white tiger. After an unexpected visit from the government inspectorate, he loses the license that allowed him to keep exotic animals. He has only five days to find an alternative shelter for his animals and to adapt their old facility environment, or he loses what he calls his life's work.
