Terug naar Nagele plot
In 1960 Louis van Gasteren's short film 'A New Village on New Land' was released, about the design and construction of the village of Nagele in the Noordoostpolder. The film has turned out to be historiography. Nagele is known worldwide for its bold, contemporary architecture. The young architects of De 8 and Opbouw (including Van Eyck and Rietveld) designed a village, characterized by flat roofs and a spatial layout. The architects wanted to connect 'inside' with 'outside' for an optimal quality of life and living. Fifty years later, Van Gasteren wonders whether the village still 'meets' today's requirements. He talks to architects, residents and administrators about what has changed in the past fifty years and how they see the future.
