"You go to bed poor, but wake up rich." That is the dream of many Haitians who have given up all hope except to win the lottery in which they enthusiastically participate every day. A sizable borlette lottery network covers the entire country, bringing in nearly $250,000 a day. The two-digit balls on which gamblers can bet are drawn every night in different foreign cities, to prevent fraud: New York, Miami, Santo Domingo, Caracas.
