Streetwise plot

"The streets - your only chance for life."

This documentary follows nine young Seattle teenagers who have fallen out of society and lead a nomadic existence through the city's slums. Streetwise gives an unvarnished picture and a penetrating account of the life - and in one case even death - of these desperate young lost souls.

The only bad part about flying is having to come back down to the fuckin' world.

Striking quote, shows exactly how these teenagers stand in (or actually outside) society. The documentary can be seen in its entirety on YouTube.

Distressing but fascinating documentary provides a raw picture of daily reality for a number of homeless teenagers in Seattle. Created in response to an extensive article in Life magazine and rightly nominated for an Oscar, especially because the young people are completely authentic come across. Also special is the large number of interviewees who together form a cross-section of society and demonstrate that homelessness is not so much tied to class, but to problematic home situations. An unmissable documentary that is undoubtedly also an important source of inspiration for Penelope Spheeris' The Decline of Western Civilization Part III (1998)

Excellent documentary about a number of teenagers living on the streets. A harrowing document despite the fact that 'the children' manage to cope well and generally appear cheerful (perhaps also because they don't know any better). Depicted raw and without any embellishments.
