Stones Have Laws plot
The Maroons of Suriname are descendants of Africans who were forcibly brought to Suriname by slavers. There they freed themselves from slavery and settled in the jungle. The Surinamese Maroons living here shed light on their world in this documentary. They show how they live here and how consulting ancestors and forest spirits goes hand in hand with the use of modern tools. In staged situations, in the middle of the forest, along the river or around a campfire, not only village elders, but also young men and women tell about the spirit-inspired nature and the history of their people.
